About the Process
Some key steps in the web page design process:
- Identify and discuss goals and objectives for the proposed web site. What does the individual or organization expect to gain from the web presence?
- Secure domain name and web host. Determine requirements (e.g. initial number of pages, graphics, level of interactivity desired, forms, search engines, etc).
- Determine who is going to provide content and how.
- Determine how website is going to be maintained after it is designed and uploaded.
- Provide a site plan, laying out the format of the site.
- Develop Cascading Style Sheets created for the project to ensure consistency of fonts, headings, colors, etc, throughout the site.
- Construct trial pages representing an approach to the design of the site; give a taste of the site functionality and style.
- Get response and then refine and redesign. Once the design direction is determined and approved, make further refinements and add the rest of the content, links, scan and insert images; pages are completed and forms are added.
- Final design undergoes test/validation to insure proper functionality of the entire web site on multiple browsers.
- Launch the site.
- Perform minor maintenance for a period of time (broken links, possible mistakes, etc).
